Greystone GT are delighted to announce the continuation of its GT Cup programme in 2023 with Phillip Carter and Michael Broadhurst the team’s first confirmed pairing of a planned multi-car line-up.
The duo will once again race a McLaren 570S GT4 in the GTH category for the Silverstone-based team as they bid to improve on this year’s sixth place in the standings.
Phillip, who had contested just one race event prior to 2022, made an instant impact with a superb maiden podium finish at only the second event of the season at Brands Hatch in ultra-challenging weather conditions.
The York-based driver added three more, together with Michael, including career-best second-place results in the Pitstop Races at the June and October events at Snetterton.
Pro co-driver Michael, who lives in Northampton, brings a wealth of GT experience to the line-up. A race winner in the British GT Championship, the FIA European GT4 Cup and the GT Cup, he has also claimed victories in the Radical Enduro and Ginetta G20 Series.
In addition to his four GT Cup podiums and two fastest laps with Phillip, he teamed-up with fellow Greystone GT driver Iain Campbell to claim third place in a one-off outing in the British Endurance Championship and twice made the GT4 Pro-Am podium in British GT.
GT Cup events typically feature practice, qualifying, two sprint races of 25-minute duration and two longer 50-minute pitstop races with driver changes allowed.
The emphasis is placed on giving ‘sporting’ drivers like Phillip as much track time as possible, meaning professionals like Michael are restricted to taking part in practice and the second stint of each pitstop race.
Seven rounds will be held at the UK’s best racetracks between April and October with live streaming of all races on the GT Cup YouTube channel.

Phillip Carter said: “I can’t wait to get going for the new season. I really had no idea that 2022 was going to go as well as it did, given I was coming in with only one race weekend behind me. But the team have been great, I’ve got used to going wheel-to-wheel with other drivers, which was the biggest challenge and we’ve made constant progress. Brands Hatch was the highlight; scoring our first podium together in front of a huge crowd that had come along to see Valentino Rossi that weekend, and on slicks in the wet… it’s the drive I’m most proud of. Mikey’s been an incredible coach since we started working together in 2021 and he’s proven time and time again this year that he’s a fantastic racing driver too so there’s nobody I’d rather have sharing my car in 2023. The target is to score more podiums than we did this year, and if we can do that consistently then we should be able to challenge for our first win.”
Michael Broadhurst said: “As far as debut seasons go, Phillip’s done a phenomenal job this year and I’m thrilled to have the chance to continue with him and Greystone GT into 2023. Our target this year was a podium. We did that at only the second event and challenged for the win more than once, so it’s certainly mission accomplished. I’ve been especially impressed with how his racecraft has evolved. By the end of the season, he was making good passing moves and defending well, which was really pleasing to see. Next year we’re aiming to fight for the win in GTH on a far more consistent basis and for Phillip to make the Sprint Race podium, which I think is a realistic target as his development continues. I can’t wait to get back on track.”
Mark McLoughlin, Team Principal, said: “We’re very pleased to continue in the GT Cup in 2023 with such a strong pairing in the GTH class. It’s the series in which we made our race debut and where we scored our first podium and win, and with Phillip and Michael aboard the McLaren, I’m sure we can add to those tallies. Phillip’s potential was clear from his first time in a racing car at one of our Supercar Trackdays and through 2022 his on-track progress has been fantastic, as we saw with his first podium in the wet at Brands Hatch. The speed is more consistent than ever before and his racecraft, in particular, is on a totally different level, thanks to the excellent work Michael’s done on the coaching side. We can’t wait to build our GTH programme around him and see just what he and Michael can achieve in 2023.”
