Greystone GT are delighted to announce that Ron Trenka and Jon Lancaster will reunite for the McLaren Trophy Europe this year as the team seeks to make it titles three years in a row.
The duo, who were paired together in both the UK’s GT Cup and the McLaren Trophy Europe in 2022-23, will be back together in the Pro-Am category of the five-event series aboard Ron’s McLaren Artura Trophy, which has been upgraded to ‘Evo’ specification for the 2025 season.
New York Native Ron began racing in 2021 and was a podium-finisher in the Monticello Motor Club Series in his homeland as well as a points-scorer with Jon in the GT Cup when he competed in Europe for the first time with Greystone GT.
He scored a pair of podium finishes with Jon in the McLaren Trophy Europe’s 570S class in 2023 before moving up to the top Artura category for the final two rounds; the duo setting fastest laps at both events.
Jon spent 2024 racing a Greystone GT Artura in the GT4 European Series, in which he achieved a pair of class pole positions and was a podium finisher.
Prior to that, the Leeds driver – who claimed Greystone GT’s first race win in 2021 – won the European Le Mans Series title in 2015 and was a race-winner in the GP2 Series, Formula Renault 3.5 and the F3 Euro Series.
Ron and Jon are the third Greystone GT pairing to be announced for the series, joining reigning 570S champions Ryan James and Oli Webb and new signings Jayden Kelly and Michael O’Brien.
The McLaren Trophy Europe begins at Brands Hatch, UK, on May 3-4 and visits Monza, Spa-Francorchamps and the Nurburgring before concluding at Paul Ricard, France, on October 3-5.
Ron Trenka said: “I’m really looking forward to the 2025 race season. Jon and I have been working together since an ice driving event years before I even started my racing career and it’s been an upswing ever since. He’s a very strong driver and was the fastest guy in the Trophy Series when we last raced together in 2023. Now that we are back, I feel we are coming into this year stronger than ever. With the big leaps forward I made towards the end of last season, for the first time having previously competed at all the tracks we are going to this season and keeping myself race-sharp by sim-racing in the off season, I think we have a good shot at that podium this year.”
Jon Lancaster said: “I’m excited to be back with Ron for the McLaren Trophy Europe this year. The Trophy version of the Artura is the ultimate version of that car performance-wise so I’m looking forward to racing it after spending 2024 in the GT4. We’ve taken some big steps forward – especially in terms of Ron’s speed and consistency – from when we started working together through to the end of 2023 so I’m eager to pick up where we left off and see what we can do this time in a car and on tracks that Ron’s now fully familiar with.”
Mark McLoughlin, Team Principal, said: “It’s great to have Ron and Jon back together, though I must thank Duncan Tappy, who filled in brilliantly in 2024 while Jon was racing our GT4 McLaren, and helped Ron continue his evolution as a driver. Our McLaren Trophy line-up is going from strength-to-strength with every announcement as we aim to make it titles in three consecutive years.”
